The Law of Attraction
I was being interviewed the other day for an article on us and the writer asked me about the book, The Secret. The Secret and the Law of Attraction is what changed our mistaken texts into something. When Henry asked me if I’d read the book or knew anything about the principle, I was floored. It was something so deeply special to me, I couldn’t believe a stranger had brought it up.
This principle shows up in a ton of different ways and for the purposes of this blog, I’m simply going to share some quotes from the masters and give a few examples of how it shows up for us.
Many have written about the Law of Attraction, or the Power of Intention, or Grace…In Star Wars it’s referred to as The Force. I’ve also referred to it as Flow in a previous article. The principle is essentially what you put your energy on is what comes to you.
“Well the Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It’s an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us; it binds the galaxy together.” Obi-Wan Kenobi
In the film the Secret, towards the beginning, the more commercialized version of the law is talked about, like “You too can have a red BMW if you focus on it hard enough.” My preferred way of looking at it is much more spiritual. It’s about believing, about putting out great energy with the expectation of a return of like energy. (For surely when you put out negative energy, that most certainly will be what comes back to you.)
“You need to learn how to select your thoughts just the same way you select your clothes every day. This is a power you can cultivate. If you want to control things in your life so bad, work on the mind. That’s the only thing you should be trying to control.”
― Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love
Further, wether you want to refer to God or the Universe, the principle is that there is so much LOVE surrounding us all the time, we really just need to tap into it for good things to happen. In one of my favorite books, The Unmistakable Touch of Grace by Cheryl Richardson, she refers to how the Universe is conspiring in our favor.
It was certainly the Law of Attraction which brought Henry and me together period. And from the first few texts we marveled at how often it showed up between us. From ordering the same randomly weird coffee drink the 2nd time we met to time after time of perfectly timed “coincidences,” we were connected by an incredible energy.
Henry and I experienced that when we were planning our wedding. We never set a date after he proposed back on June 29th of 2014. Suddenly in June of 2015 we decided to get married on our anniversary weekend. We had 2 weeks and 2 days to plan.
Everything worked. Even when our chosen spot ended up being flooded out, with 2 days to re-plan everything, and I mean everything, everything still worked. For those 2 weeks and 2 days we stayed focused on what we wanted to happen, and had complete conviction that it would all be perfect. And it was.
“There is no coincidence, and nothing happens ‘by accident.’ Each event and adventure is called to your Self by your Self in order that you might create and experience Who You Really Are. All that is required is to know this. For you are the creator of your own reality, and life can show up in no other way for you than the way in which you think it will.” Neale Donald Walsh, Conversations with God
The funny thing is that I don’t remember sending out any energy to meet Henry. Maybe he was sending out energy that attracted me! One thing is for certain, we were supposed to meet. We are such a perfect match, there’s no doubt about it!
I encourage anyone to read any of the books or authors mentioned here. It’s really life changing. I can’t promise you’ll meet the love of your life by sending out a random text but I can promise that if you tap into the LOVE of the Universe and put your intention on something important to you, you will get a result. You may not recognize it as what you asked for, but you will certainly get a result!
